Yes, I am that Micah, Decentering Manila’s Underworld: Approaching Trese: Murder on Balete Drive as a Hybrid Form was my B.A. Literature thesis, and enough people have asked me for a copy that made me think of making this page for easier access.

I’d heard about Dandadan as a much-awaited title to be adapted into the anime screen, and I was glad that V was just as excited to watch it. Since it explored Japanese occultism, yokai, and cryptids, I was already interested as a fan of all of that. It’s a shounen romance battle anime, set in modern times where aliens have infiltrated humanity to… extract bananas. It makes sense in context.

Now that we’re well into the second season, it’s only been an exciting yet agonizing wait for each episode (since we wanted to avoid manga spoilers) as we’re more than invested in its amazing characters and entertaining story.

While I lapped up the bits of lore I was unfamiliar with and enjoyed poring over details with V, he took the two protagonists, Okarun and Momo, and created D&D homebrew subclasses inspired by them!

He showcases how the powers and abilities of each subclass let you zip around the battlefield or control it, respectively, using his signature Action Cam, and explains how they work along the way.

Kamen Rider Build is a 2017 tokusatsu show by Toei. It’s the story of genius inventor Kiryu Sento, who gets wrapped up in a conflict between three nations, whose strings are secretly pulled by the greatest mastermind villain in the entire franchise.

The series has it all: humor, intrigue, a tight plot, and enough action to fill the DM’s encounter quota. Basically, Kamen Rider Build is a Best Match for a D&D campaign, and DM V from My Wife is the MC has just the homebrew to help you play exactly that!

Kamen Rider Build is my personal all-time favorite among the many, many series DM V introduced ever since we got married. Personally, it’s right up there in his ever-evolving top 5.

In his latest Husband Homebrew video, he shows how DMs can add Kamen Rider Build into your campaign setting and how players can fulfill that character fantasy of being one of the Kamen Riders from the series!

He’ll highlight some of the chapters in this long homebrew document that help D&D tables add Kamen Rider Build into your campaign setting!

Kamen Rider W is a special entry in Toei’s mega-franchise, where detective noir crime drama overlaps with blood-pumping action and pyrotechnics sequences. Its main hook is the titular Kamen Rider having two people in one body.

Suppose you’ve got that itch to play in that style of adventure, all while using unique mechanics for both players and monsters. In that case, DM V has a custom 5e homebrew that guides DMs to run a superhuman monster crime family, a whole bunch of magic items to help carry the narrative, and of course, a bunch of player options from magic items, races, feats, and even TWO NEW subclasses to bring Kamen Rider W to your D&D table!

In DM V’s YouTube show Husbando Homebrew, he takes pop culture to pen and paper—and Kamen Rider is just one of his bigger homebrew creations.

What’s Kamen Rider W?

Kamen Rider W is a 2009 special effects show by Toei Company featuring the half-boiled detective Hidari Shotaro and his living search engine partner Philip, as they solve superhuman monster crimes orchestrated by the big bad crime family, Museum. When push comes to shove, Philip and Shotaro put their heads together and transform into the titular hero, Kamen Rider Double!

In Kaiju No. 8, Hibino Kafka transforms into the titular kaiju that can take down giant monsters with a single punch. Now—imagine wielding that power in your D&D game!

DM V helps players create and play a new character using a D&D subclass inspired by Kaiju No 8. He uses that character to explore some of Kafka’s iconic abilities and showcases how you can use them at your table.

He also gives some role-play ideas to help you create your own Kaiju-transforming character!

What D&D class is Hibino Kafka?

So what subclass fits Kafka the most? There are many possible takes here, like using a druid’s wild shape to represent his transformation. Using a monk can portray his speed and ferocity. The fine mallards over at DM V’s YouTube community posts even suggested paladin or bard, given Kafka’s personality rather than abilities. Channel friends at The Game Masters Guide also created a barbarian homebrew of Kaiju No. 8.

While all those ideas are great, DM V really latched on to this thing. Or more accurately, it latched on to Kafka. This relationship feels silently contractual, doesn’t it?

This power seemingly comes with strings attached. There’s also a possibility of his monstrous patron taking control of him when kaiju push comes to kaiju shove. So given all that, which subclass fits Kafka the best?

The Monster Otherworldy Patron

DM V thinks warlock seems to fit Kafka best—so he created the D&D 5e homebrew patron: The Monster! This subclass slightly outpaces most warlocks in terms of damage, but it lacks in range due to its melee focus. What it lacks in range though is made up for in versatility and defenses, especially in the later levels.

Now, maybe you don’t find Kafka to be all that charismatic, but maybe DM V can convince you otherwise.

Reasons for the rizz

Kafka’s been shown to have enough Charisma to bumble into embarrassing situations only for his peers to find it endearing. He’s also mouthed off to commanding officers while only getting a smile and a few push-ups. DM V himself has a very slight military background, and he’ll be the first to tell you that getting away with just that for mouthing off makes Kafka either incredibly charming or incredibly lucky. He even garnered the support of his much younger peers when he was imprisoned for his powers.

But even with AAAALLL THAT, DM V has two pieces of very unquestionable proof that Kafka’s got rizz: one – he won over the tsundere. And two – he won over the tsundere’s DAD.

If that isn’t charisma, what is?

As to why he favors intelligence over wisdom, well, Kafka’s been lacking in the self-confidence department so much that he quit his dream. He’s also shown to give in to fear first before he gets the will to fight, at least in the early days. The biggest tell may be his struggle to attune to the anti-kaiju battle suit. Now, that might just be because of his kaiju powers, but it might also be tied to internal control like breathing, heart rate, and such.

DM V also favored intelligence to stick with the character’s theme. This is because Kafka’s got a more studious background as a former kaiju cleanup crew.
