Blooming in New York’s Skid Row as Audrey II are OJ Mariano and one of the urchins, Julia Serad. Bringing this bloodthirsty plant to life with her inventive design is puppet artist Kalya Teodoro. At the same time, scenographer Mio Infante takes audiences into the world of Skid Row, where the story takes place.
Everything you need to know about Little Shop of Horrors
The story follows the meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn, who stumbles upon a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” in honor of his coworker crush. This demanding, singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it—with increasingly meatier portions. As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the stakes get higher until Seymour has no choice but to confront the monstrous consequences of his actions.
Little Shop of Horrors was originally a low-budget film directed by Roger Corman in 1960, turned into an award-winning off-Broadway musical in 1982, and got remade into a popular musical film in 1986 starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, and the voice of Levi Stubbs.
It features Alan Menken’s music and Howard Ashman’s lyrics, with songs that include “Somewhere That’s Green” and “Suddenly Seymour.”

Did you know that Audrey II is based on an actual carnivorous plant? Real-world Venus flytraps don’t offer fame and fortune or eat human flesh, but they enjoy the occasional bug and act like the ideal middle ground between plants and pets.
