There’s just something about cats. We’ve covered cat items, cat cafes, cat apps—well. Not cat apps.
Until now.
I’ll say it again: I’m a dog lover, through and through, but while my heart goes out to wagging tails and wet kisses, the allure of soft, purring cats gets me once in a while. One excellent example is the cat app of utter cuteness that is Neko Atsume.
I can’t. Stop. Playing it. I mean, look at this adorable art style!!
All these adorable kitties!!
What is Neko Atsume?
Neko Atsume is an addicting Japanese cat-collecting app. In fact, Neko Atsume literally means Cat Collecting. You put out food for stray cats that will visit the outside of your house (and later on, the inside too).
You can view the cats that have visited you, and the pictures that you can take of them playing with toys you also put out for them. Certain kinds of toys attract certain kinds of cats. Some cats will play only with certain kinds of toys, and some cats won’t appear unless you put out more expensive kinds of food. There are also rare cats, like a Persian wrapped in a Persian carpet or a baseball-loving cat complete with a baseball uniform.
Update: With Version 1.4.5, a new rare cat, remodel option, and new toys are introduced—along with with a very handy English language option!!
Wait, this app is in Japanese!!
No need to worry—navigating this app is super easy.
There are fun details that you might miss, like the cat’s names and personalities, but there are walkthroughs available to help us non-Japanese folk get by (I can only read hiragana and katakana and that little accomplishment is enough to make me proud). I’ll link those below!
Where can I download Neko Atsume?
The app has to be searched for with Japanese characters, but no worries! You can find the links below~
